Demolition is wasteful and unhealthy. [Insert shocking statistics here.] Plus, urban densification is rapidly making many contemporary techniques obsolete. ERO Concrete Recycling Robot and his buddies are here to help! Omer Haciomeroglu, from Sweden’s Umea Institute of Design, is offering an alternative that will not only minimize the release of nasty dust “blooms” but will also recycle all the rebar and concrete from the demolition, on-site.
“In order to overcome later separation and ease the transport of materials,” writes Haciomeroglu, “the process had to start with separation on the spot. It was a challenge to switch from brutal pulverizing to smart deconstruction.”
